Food Drive for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano
March 12-16, 2012

Next month, Walnut Acres will host its annual food drive benefitting the food bank of Contra Costa and Solano. This food bank works to reduce food waste, feed hungry people, and raise public awareness on issues related to food and hunger. Each month,
more than 132,000 people in need receive food from the food bank's network of charitable agencies. The most wanted food items include:
  • Canned Meat, Fish & Soups
  • Canned Ready to Eat Meals
  • Canned Vegetables & Tomato Products
  • Peanut Butter (plastic container)
  • Iron Rich Cereal (45% or more of daily value)
  • 100% Fruit Juice (48 oz. or less plastic bottles)
  • Canned Fruit (in juice)
  • Dry Beans (any type)
  • Enriched Rice or Pasta
  • Powdered Milk
We will be accepting canned food for the drive March 12-16, 2012 in designated food barrels in each classroom. Thank you for your support.

Darci Jones Book Drive 
May 14-18, 2012

We will be accepting books for the Darci Jones Book Drive May 14-18, 2012 in front of the office.
This book drive was named after Darcie Jones, a Walnut Acres parent who started a book drive in the Spring of 1994 to benefit Meadow Homes Elementary School in Concord. She died of cancer on December 31 1996. The PFC renamed the book drive "The Darcie Jones Book Drive" in her honor and planted a tree outside the 3rd grade wing in honor of all that she had contributed to Walnut Acres.

PAST EVENTS

Toy & Clothing Drive
December 5-9, 2011

Heartfelt thanks to the entire Walnut Acres community for your generosity in the Toy & Clothing 
Drive for our sister school, Shore Acres Elementary School in Bay Point.  Through your kindness, we filled up 8 large vehicles with your numerous donations.  We also appreciate all (including participating Brownies and Scouts) who volunteered their time and energy in collecting, sorting, and transporting donations.  The Shore Acres Elementary School's faculty and PTA  are very appreciative to have had so much to offer their families at their Holiday Giveaway on Saturday, December 17th.  Thank you again for exemplifying the true holiday spirit by reaching out to our broader community!
