Listen to bluegrass, family-style with the Schwartzes and support Mt. Diablo Music Education Fund!!!
Come see (and hear) Walnut Acres second grader and musician Tessa Schwartz perform with her family bluegrass band, "Oak Grove," the Walnut Avenue United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 10 at 7:30! (Check out Oak Grove's website: www.oakgrovebluegrass.com) This delightful band has been entertaining audiences in Northern California for the past several years, and it features Tessa on fiddle, Northgate junior Nate Schwartz on mandolin, and Foothill eighth grader Max Schwartz on banjo, along with their parents Gail and Bob on upright bass and guitar. Nate and Max both got their start in music at Walnut Acres several years ago in fourth grade band and are now among the top young bluegrass musicians in the country, whileTessa is among the top traditional-style fiddlers in her age group in California. Joining "Oak Grove" on stage that night will be Nate and Max's all-teen, progressive bluegrass band "Them Boys." ("Like" them at https://www.facebook.com/#!/themboysband) It will surely be a fun and memorable night with blistering, toe-tapping bluegrass music for the whole family to enjoy!
The church will give its proceeds to the Mt. Diablo Music Education Fund ( http://www.mdmusicfoundation.org/). So you'll have fun and serve our schools as well! It'll be a great night! Doors open at 7:00 pm. The concert starts promptly at 7:30 pm. $12 per person/$25 for a family Refreshments are available for purchase at intermission. |

From February 1 through March 1, the teen volunteer group at Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation ( www.arf.net) is holding a coin drive at Walnut Acres and other local elementary schools called "Change a Life!"
The goal is to raise funds for ARF animal care programs. Coin collection boxes will be placed in the 3rd through 5th grade classrooms and in the school office. The school that raises the most money will have a cat named after the school and its adoption fee prepaid! AND, the class that raises the most money can win an ice cream sundae party, or a pizza party.
Also, we will collect towels for the ARF towel drive during this time, so please drop off your old towels in front of the school office. Thank you! |
